Tim Walker hates compromise........ "Sometimes I think compromise equals most people losing, in a way," he said........ "I'd rather one person loses and another wins depending on the situation, because some things you can't compromise on. [MMMmmmmm ] If you compromise, you've lost, even though politics is the art of compromise." [ However a good compromise, a good piece of legislation, is like a good sentence; or a good piece of music. Everybody can recognize it. They say, 'Huh. It works. It makes sense.' Barack Obama MMMmmm ] ....... A self-described jack-of-all-trades, with previous professions including journalism, political advisory, teaching, and woodworking, Cr Walker was first elected to the City of Launceston council in 2018........ He said his interest in politics - and his tilts at mayoralty and state parliament - was borne out of a desire to create lasting, systemic change in the city [MMMmmmmm ] ........ "We can't solve all the world's problems on the council, but I want Launceston to be the best community it can be," Cr Walker said.[MMMmmmmm ] ....... Tim Walker's introduction speech at the Launceston mayoral candidates forum. A not-so-invisible hand The second-term councillor said there was [IS] a real sense of inertia at the council. [ If you fail fail because you don't get started - you just don't go and you don't overcome inertia. You don't even begin.]....... Part of this was [IS] the resistance to change common to any established organisation, but the shifting dynamics of the council - the seven first-term councillors elected in 2022, and changes in leadership roles - added to that. [MMMmmmmm If you're unwilling to break bad habits you need a lot of excuses and then you play the victim ] ....... Despite this, the councillor was encouraged by some of the changes he had seen in his time - flying the Aboriginal Flag over Town Hall, the creation of the Aboriginal Partnership Plan, and the formation of the Homelessness Advisory Committee [MMMmmmmm The unexamined life is not worth living. ...Socrates]........ These were all examples of the council adapting to the changing needs of society. [MMMmmmmm ]....... "I want to be able to look back and say, we brought that change about and it's not change for change's sake. I think everyone can look at our current, modern society and see things have to change," Cr Walker said. [MMMmmmmm ...feigned intelligence is the restatement of the bleeding obvious.]....... There was still more work to be done.[MMMmmmmm ... lots!]. ....... Cr Walker is a proponent of renaming the Batman Bridge, [MMMmmmmm bridges just do not need names].and making the council more active when it came to dealing with social issues like housing and homelessness, [MMMmmmmm send the victims to the charities, evict them from Council land and hide behind bureaucratic humbug] .childcare or even revitalising the city's economy. [MMMmmmmm where, when how?? ]. ....... This stopped short of creating the "Socialist State of Tasmania", but said there was a space for the council to step in when private investment failed. a Heav’n of Hell, a Hell of Heav’n.” ... John Milton
