WHAT THE INCUMBENTS SAID 2018

This is what the incumbents said about themselves and it makes for interesting reading in 2022. It was always going to be the case and the miniscule number of ratepayers who voted for these 'successful'  candidates were clearly not paying attention to what these candidates were saying about themselves. How could they?  They were actually, and quite deliberately, saying nothing much at all.

Interestingly, candidates' pecuniary interests are assiduously avoided as are their qualifications not revealed yet they were asking us, the city's citizens, to pay them, and relatively handsomely, for their time and 'expertise'. In fact, when constituents challenge poor/inept decisions as likely as not they will be told that 'their qualifications/expertise' count for nought – that is if anyone of them will engage with a constituent

Consider this the base payment made to Councillors is in the order $2,100, 000 PLUS for their term in office. Yes, that is only about $70 per rateable property but the question hanging are they worth the investment – not forgetting the MEGA SALARIES Executive Officers are paid.

All constituents might well ask the incumbents:
  • What did they see as their prime achievements collectively?
  • What did they see as their prime achievements individually?
  • Did they expend ratepayers' funds appropriately?
  • Were they accountable at all time in their term of office?
  • Did they uphold the VISION, PURPOSE & VALUES they stood to uphold? ... LINK

It is said that 'maturity' is learning to walk away from people and situations that threaten your peace of mind, self-respect, values, morals or self-worth. We might well keep this in mind as we attempt to move forward and grapple with all that must contend with in the 21st C GOVERNANCE – National, State & Local.
